Monachos.net - How to Choose Patron Saints

We would like to choose a Patron Saint for our family. We each have Patron Saints, but have heard of people having a Saint for the whole family and would like to do the same.

My husband is leaning toward Holy Archangel Michael. Is there any particular method (s) of making this choice? Is it just the same as when we chose our individual saints?
